RULES OF THE ROAD FOR THE NCVEI ANALYTICAL TOOLS

  • The NCVEI was formed by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC).
  • The Analytical Tools will be managed by NCVEI on an independent basis as a service to the members of the AVMA, AAHA, AAVMC, and CVMA, but without interference or involvement in its administration by those associations. The NCVEI will ensure the following:
    • All commercially reasonable efforts will be taken to maintain the confidentiality of all data obtained from individual practitioners
    • No individual practitioner's data will be accessible to any other individual practitioner, to any of the constituent associations, or to any third party
    • None of the data will be available to practitioners or the constituent associations
  • Statistical data will be based in all cases on inputs from at least 20 providers, and no single provider's data will represent more than 25 percent, on a weighted basis, of any reported average. Statistical data will relate to specified geographic areas and demographic profiles, and care will be taken to ensure that no provider can identify data from another provider.
  • Statistics will be computed from data submitted by individual providers at various times over the course of up to eleven months preceding any given reporting event. The expected average age of the data within any reported statistic will, over time, exceed three months.
  • The Analytical Tools are designed to be practice management tools to assist the individual practitioner in advancing his or her own professional practice objectives. They are benchmarking tools that enable the individual practitioner to compare his or her performance to prevailing standards and practices. Neither NCVEI nor its constituent associations suggest, advise or encourage users to respond to reported statistics in any particular manner. Users are cautioned not to share or discuss reported information or intended uses of it with any other user or practitioner.
